Free invitation letter for parents visiting the USA

One short form gives you a B‑2 visa invitation letter and a travel information sheet your parents can show airline and airport staff. Download both as PDF or Word.

  • Completely free
  • No login, no sign-up
  • Nothing you type is uploaded

Two documents from one form

Most hosts only think about the letter. The travel sheet is what helps on the day: at check-in, at immigration and if a flight changes.

Invitation letter for the visa interview

A formal, one-page letter from you, written in standard U.S. business style.

  • Who is visiting, your relationship and your U.S. address
  • Purpose of the visit, in your own words if you like
  • Who pays, listing only what you choose to cover
  • Arrival and return dates and their plan to go home

Travel information sheet for the journey

A summary your parents can carry and hand to airline or airport staff, one page for most families.

  • Passport names, dates of birth and visa details
  • Flights, booking reference and your U.S. address
  • Emergency contacts in the U.S. and back home
  • An interpreter note if they speak little English

Your details stay on your device

Passport numbers and dates of birth are sensitive, so the tool never sends them anywhere.

Made in your browser

The documents are created on your device. There is no account and no server that receives your answers.

Saved only in this browser

Your draft stays here so you can come back later. On a shared computer, clear it when you are done.

Deleted in one click

“Clear all my data” on the last step removes the draft and every signature.

Common questions about B‑2 invitation letters

Short answers based on official U.S. government sources. General information, not legal advice.

Last reviewed October 19, 2026. TravelSheets is an independent tool, not affiliated with the U.S. government.

Is an invitation letter required for a B‑2 visitor visa?

No. The U.S. Department of State says visitor visa applicants do not need an invitation letter, and that it is not a factor in deciding the visa. Treat it as an optional summary of the trip that keeps your details in one place.

Is TravelSheets really free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free, with no login and no sign-up. There is no trial, no paywall and no watermark on the documents.

Does the letter need to be notarized?

The State Department’s visitor visa instructions do not ask for a notarized invitation letter. Always follow the instructions of the embassy or consulate where your parents apply.

What do consular officers actually look at?

Under section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, each applicant must show they qualify for a visitor visa. Officers consider the applicant’s own circumstances, travel plans, resources and ties outside the United States. Your status as the host does not decide your parents’ eligibility, and no letter can guarantee a visa.

How long can my parents stay on a B‑2 visa?

The officer at the port of entry decides the length of stay and records it on the I-94. Admission is often for up to six months, but the officer decides. The visa’s expiry date is not the date they must leave. The tool warns you if your dates add up to more than six months.

What documents are needed for the interview and the trip?

For the visa interview: a valid passport, the DS-160 confirmation page, the fee receipt if your embassy asks for it, a printed photo if the online upload failed, and anything your embassy’s own instructions list. Officers may ask about the trip’s purpose, plans to return and who pays; extra evidence such as employment or family ties at home can help answer those questions, but it is not universally required. For travel: the passport with the visa, plus trip details such as the return ticket and your U.S. address, which the travel sheet collects in one place.

Who should sign the letter?

You, the person they are visiting. You can draw, type or upload your signature in the tool, or print the letter and sign by hand. Your parents can sign the travel sheet’s declaration themselves if they want to; it is optional.

Can I edit the letter after downloading it?

Yes. Download the Word version and change anything. Inside the tool you can also turn sections on or off, rewrite the purpose and payment paragraphs, and add your own paragraphs.

Free. No login. No sign-up.

Open the form and start typing. Both documents take about five minutes.
